ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new state laws permits the hunting season to start a couple of days earlier for youth and mobility-impaired individuals.

Residents can provide their opinions on the ruling at a public hearing in Douglas at 7pm. The expansion is supposed to help boost hunting enthusiasm.

"Hunter recruitment is a problem for us right now so we are trying to recruit more hunters, and also there needs to be more opportunity for mobility-impaired hunters," said Georgia Department of Natural Resources supervisor John Denton.

"Nowadays, people spend more time during the day on their iPhone, doing other things, playing games, video games and things like that," said Denton.

The expansion is for private land hunting.
