The YMCA is training youths for their upcoming SuperKidz Triathlon event this weekend at their SuperKidz Triathlon Camp.

Adriahna Mirus has participated in physical activities her entire life.

"I've done sports ever since I was really little," said Adriahna Mirus. "I started gymnastics when I was about 3 or 2 and I did it ever since."

So it was no surprise that she decided to participate in the SuperKidz Triathlon Camp with the Albany Area YMCA.

"I just love sports so I just love to stay in shape so that I can do the sport," said Mirus.

The five day camp promotes fitness and teaches children the basic fundamentals of a triathlon.

"Basically swimming fundamentals, the running and the biking," said Camp Instructor Deanna Julian.

While the main focus is to prepare the athletes for their upcoming triathlon event this weekend the instructors also stress one important message.

"With childhood obesity becoming predominant in our society it's important to keep them active and keep them healthy and this is a great way to get them involved and teach them three different aspects of things that they can do for their rest of their lives," said Julian.

Julian, a triathlon athlete herself, tells her campers that the hard work and sweat to prepare for a triathlon leads to rewarding goals afterwards.

"It's all worth it," said Mirus.

Hard work that Adriahna believes will lead her across the finish line.

The Superkidz Triathlon will take place this Saturday July 20th at the YMCA Sports Park at 4508 Gillonville Road. Youths ages 4-6 will swim 25 yds; bike .49 miles and run .25 miles. Youths ages 7-10 will swim 75 yds; bike 1 mile and run .5 miles. Youths ages 11-14 will swim 150 yds; bike 2 miles and run 1 mile.
