Who killed Robert Pett?

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a man over the weekend.

The victim was found dead behind an abandoned home.

Neighbor Tommy Bonner says he heard three gunshots go off Saturday night. Police were called to Walnut Street around 9:30 p.m. and found 22-year-old Robert Pett shot to death behind an abandoned home.

"Since I've been here for four years, nothing like that has gone on," said Bonner.

Neighbors are still shaken up on this quiet street as police look for the gunman. Officials say the victim didn't live in this neighborhood and they don't know what he was doing here.

"A neighbor heard some noises outside, thought there was a possible prowler in the area. So when officers got there they were just checking the area. Not sure if that had anything to do with the actual homicide or not, but they did find him after they responded to the area," said Lt. Aaron Kirk, VPD.

Right now police are looking for a person of interest, but have made no arrests. Bonner says he's worried knowing the shooter is still at large.

"Nothing like that to happens around here, you've never heard gunshots or anybody getting hurt around here," said Bonner.

Police are hoping to have more questions answered once they find this person of interest.

"We don't know if they had anything to do with it, but they want to talk to them," said Kirk.

The victim's body was taken to the GBI crime lab today for an autopsy.

If you have any information on this shooting, Valdosta Police ask you to call them at 229-293-3145.
