Prayer vigils to be held for Warren Hill

NAACP branches across Georgia are asking the United States Supreme Court to step in and stop the scheduled execution of Warren Hill.

Leaders toured the state Friday, calling for Monday's scheduled execution of Warren Hill to be stopped because he is mentally disabled. Hill was sentenced to die for the 1990 beating death of a fellow inmate at Lee State Prison. But the NAACP agrees with Hill's lawyers that he is too mentally disabled to understand his crime.

The Terrell County branch is holding a prayer vigil Monday at 6:30pm to stop the execution. It will be held at the intersection of State Route 520 and US 82 in Dawson.

"If we don't stand up and speak, then who will stand up and speak? There are other organizations that we are joining in with who know this is a barbaric act that needs to come to an end," said Rev. Ezekiel Holley, the President of the Terrell Co. NAACP branch.

The Albany Dougherty branch is holding their vigil Monday at 6:30pm at their office at 136 North Magnolia Street.  Hill is scheduled to be executed Monday at 7pm.
