A federal judge has altered Georgia's 2014 Federal Election Calendar by moving the Federal primary election date up by a month. Judge Steve C. Jones moved next year's federal primary election date from July to June.

The new change will give the military a longer extension to turn their ballots in. Both federal and state elections will run during the same time and could vary among cost for counties depending on its set-up. This will leave a two month gap for federal runoff elections in August. Election officials believe voters will need to become more educated on the different ballot styles, but they aren't fearful that it will hinder voter turnout.

"You may have more of a voter turnout because you may actually have more voters still present still at home and not out on vacation as they would be in July," said Election Supervisor Ginger Nickerson.

The Federal Primary Election is scheduled for June 3rd of next year.
