Trees come down at Chehaw Park

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A taxpayer-funded project to improve Chehaw is underway. Crews are clearing trees to make way for a new sewer line.

It will allow the park to expand its campgrounds, improve rental facilities, and maybe add more cabins.

The 1.2 million dollar project is being paid for with sales tax revenue.

Chehaw's executive director says the investment will pay off by bringing more visitors to Albany.

"This will open up a lot of possibilities for us, we're going to do a new camp ground down in the water front area and it's in an area that we wouldn't be able to put in a septic tank, so having the sewer really helps up with that," said Doug Porter, Executive Director, Chehaw Park.

The project should be complete by early next year.
