Sunbelt holds Field Day

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The Sunbelt Ag Expo isn't until October, but some farmers were at Spence Field Thursday for the annual Expo Field Day.

They toured the 600 acre research field and heard from Ag experts on a variety of topics. Unlike years past the conversation was not focused on a lack of water, but on an overabundance.

Despite persistent rain, the corn, peanuts, and cotton growing on the research fields have been holding up. Sunbelt farmers say the weather has been both good and bad.

"We haven't had to irrigate and that saves us money in the long run. The down side of that is the crops are stressing from the rain. Just like crops stress from the drought, they stress from too much rain. Right now we are kinda on the edge," said Sunbelt Expo Farm Site Manager Michael Chafin.

Even with the rain Chafin says one thing they're still stressing to farmers is water conversation, because you never know when dry weather could come back around.
