Albany church, fraternity seeks summertime blood donations

With summer months in full swing, the number of accidents and the need for blood is on the rise. Since blood donations tend to drop during this hot time of the year, one Albany church is teaming up with the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the American Red Cross this week to help fill the much-needed supply.

"Out on the water, parasailing, just doing a number of things they would not be doing," said Andrea Revills, New Visions Community Development President. "Car accidents are higher because people are traveling, so whenever we can have a greater supply, you know, that's always a great thing."

New Visions Church Community Development Corporation, The American Red Cross, and the Omega Psi Phi are having a blood drive Saturday and are asking for your help to save lives.

"If every person just reaches out and says will you come give blood on my behalf," said Revills. "Each one reach one, each one brings one. Then, that will certainly make a difference."

Organizers say it's one of the best ways everyone can help out in the community.

"You know a lot of people say I don't have a lot of money or I can't donate to this charity or I can't do that, but then we all have blood and this is one way we can give back to the community," said Revills.

The organizations will be taking donations from 9 Saturday morning until 1 PM at the Deliverance Youth Recreation Center on 1500 South Slappey.

If you can't make it out there this weekend, the American Red Cross takes donations by appointments throughout the week.
