ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

New math requirements are coming to Dougherty County Schools.

High school students must pass prerequisite math courses before moving on to a higher level course. The state recommended the policy change to make sure students master critical math skills.

Secondary Math Coordinator Sonia King said, "Because we don't want students trying to master end of course test in one course when they haven't passed the prerequisite course."

The policy will go into effect in the upcoming school year.
