Cigarettes, cash stolen in early morning smash and grabs

Police are working to find out if a pair of overnight smash and grabs at two Albany businesses are connected.

The first happened at Maryland's Fried Chicken on North Slappey around 3 this morning where an alarm was sounded after the drive-thru window was smashed in.

APD says the key holder determined an unknown amount of cash was taken from the restaurant.

Moments later, police got another alarm call to the Homerun Foods on Gillionville Road, just a few miles away. They found the front, left glass door shattered.

The manager of the convenience store then quickly conducted inventory to determine if anything was stolen and found several packs of cigarettes and cigars missing.

At this time Albany police says they have no suspects, but surveillance video will be reviewed.

This is the second time cash has been stolen from Maryland Fried Chicken in the past few months.

The restaurant was first broken in through the same drive-thru window in May this year, when cash was stolen from both the cash register and the office.

At the time, the owner offered a $500 reward for information about the burglary.
