Football game raises awareness about Lupus

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia football team dedicated their game to raise awareness and money for Lupus.

The Georgia Firebirds, a semi pro football team in Tifton, wore purple jerseys Saturday night during their game against Tampa Bay.  And the stands at Brodie Field were a sea of purple as folks dressed up to bring attention to the chronic disease, which attacks the immune system. There's no cure for Lupus and it can be deadly.

Travis Pratt, an opera singer who's competing on America's Got Talent was there to help support the cause.  "I"m excited to be home, Tifton is my hometown. And anything I can do to promote awareness and anything of that sort in my hometown is a double gift," said Pratt.

During halftime, Lupus survivors released purple balloons. Organizers hope to raise $2,000 at the event.
