Georgia Firebirds raising money for Lupus Foundation

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A football game is helping raise money and awareness for a chronic disease.

The Georgia Firebirds football team is teaming up with the Lupus Foundation to raise money for research to combat Lupus.

It's a sometimes deadly chronic disease that attacks the immune system and there's no cure.

Kick off time is Saturday night at 8PM at Brodie Field.

There will also be entertainment. One of the event organizers encourages everyone to come out.

"This event is very important, because there's no cure and we want a cure for this disease and in order to get the cure we need people to be aware of it, so we can call our house of representatives and our senators, so when their up in Washington D.C. They can rally for us," said Pat McKinnon, Lupus Foundation, volunteer.

The Lupus foundation is encouraging everyone to wear purple to Saturday nights game and if you wear a purple "I am a Lupus warrior" shirt you can get in for just 5 dollars.

Otherwise tickets are $8.  Organizers hope to raise $2,000.
