2013 Lupus Awareness Campaign starts

Posted: Updated:
TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

You might spot a lot of purple around Southwest Georgia throughout Friday and Saturday.

Many folks in Tift County, among other surrounding counties, are sporting the color for the 2013 Lupus Awareness Campaign.

It's all to raise funds and support for the research of the chronic disease.

Both supporters and survivors will wear purple and jeans this weekend, all for the purpose of finding better ways to treat Lupus.

There is treatment for the serious and sometimes deadly chronic disease that attacks the immune system, but no known cure.

Anyone can help battle Lupus, showing support and raising awareness by wearing purple and jeans this weekend and every Friday this month.

Tift County officials are also inviting folks to wear the color at the Georgia Firebirds football game Saturday.

Larry Dean, linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, will also be donning purple to show his support for Lupus as a volunteer at the game.

If Lupus Awareness shirts are worn to the Georgia Firebirds Football game Saturday night at 7:30, admission is $5.00.
