ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The fireworks lit up the night sky over the fairgrounds Thursday night.

Family and friends gathered at the fairgrounds Thursday night to listen to music, eat a ton of food, and of course the main attraction, watch the fireworks.

A lot of people told us that fireworks are an important part of the celebration of our nation's independence.

"How something that big up in the sky and like colorful and loud and it's just, it's crazy how something like that could just shoot off," said Magen Middleton, event attendee.

"We had a really good time and we're ready to watch the fireworks, aren't we buddy? (ask son question) We're excited, it's been a great night,"said Matt Kirtlink, event attendee.

This year was the first year this event was hosted at the fairgrounds, typically it's held downtown, event organizers said the  turnout exceeded their expectation, they thought the numbers would be low because of the weather, but that was not the case.
