TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

While the fireworks show in Albany will go on, Tifton decided to halt their July 4th celebration that was scheduled for Wednesday because of the weather.

This does not mean Tifton residents can't enjoy the holiday. Most people made plans to go ahead and celebrate any way they can.

People in Tifton had to come up with other plans after the July 4th celebration was canceled.

"My family will be together. We'll swim, and do hot dogs, hamburgers and watermelons. All American," said Wanda McMath.

Brittany Bearden was planning a trip to Mexico Beach, but canceled four days ago.

"The weather kind of ruined our plans so we decided to take it easy and stay at home," said Brittany Bearden.

ABAC student Eric Nicey says he's staying home and ordering take out.

"I guess it bad though because it's a get together for everybody. It's good to get to know people from that so. I guess it's a bad thing. But I heard it from everybody," said Eric Nicey.

Not everyone will stay in Tifton. Some say they will still brave the weather and travel.

"Well I'll be going to Albany, get with my nephew, go down there and cook out and probably ride out to the Chehaw Park," said John Drake.

Bearden says she thinks it was the right decision to postpone the show.

"With the weather, it's probably better to stay at home outside the rain, safer," said Brittany Bearden.

For the residents in Tifton, they can travel to Lake Blackshear for the Fireworks on the Flint. Their show starts at 9:30 p.m.

There has been no word yet when or if the city will reschedule their Independence Day Celebration.
