Tifton gets another eatery

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

As if Tifton didn't already have plenty of places to dine out, the city is about to welcome a national sub sandwich shop.

The former Hardee's location on 8th Street, between I-75 and Tift County's Gene Brodie Football stadium, is set to open Monday, July 8th as a Firehouse Sub Shop.

Franchise owner Carla Dodson is a Tifton native, and says the store will create about 45 jobs.  This is the first in Tifton, and the 70th store to open in Georgia.

"In Tifton we always need new restaurants around I think  and I opened a Firehouse Subs because I love Firehouse Subs and I love the sandwiches so that's why we thought to open it here," said Carla Dodson.

The rejuvenation of this area of the city took off in earnest last year, with the opening of a huge new state of the art Publix grocery store, complete with a deli.

And the jobs the new Firehouse Subs will bring should help offset the loss of jobs that are likely with the closure of a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in town. It will be shuttered with the re-organization of Belle Foods, which owns that location.

Tifton already has numerous national restaurants, including Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday's, Longhorn's, Applebee's, Texas Roadhouse, Chick-fil-A, and others.
