ASU hosts Summer Basketball League championships

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some of the best young basketball talent in South Georgia was on display Tuesday night at Albany State's HPER Gymnasium.

Four of the best teams in Albany battled it out for the ASU Summer League championships.

In a back and forth game, Grind Mode took down Georgia Go Hard in the 5th grade division championship.

In the later game, The M.O.S.T. won the 10th grade division championship over Albany Elite.

It's the fifth year of the ASU Summer League, and ASU head basketball coach Chris Cameron says it gives basketball players in South Georgia more opportunities to play meaningful games, and that will only cultivate the region's talent.

"A lot of teams travel on the weekends to tournaments, but it gives them something to do during the week, versus just practicing," Cameron says. "They have those game situations. That's what the league has provided these kids to play games, and these games have implications on them. So they're able to learn and develop under those situations."
