ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The exchange club of Albany will be giving out hundreds of flags at the fireworks show in celebration of our nation's birthday.

The club plans to distribute around 800 small flags to kids in honor of the national Give-a-kid-a-flag-to-waive program.

The idea is to promote patriotism in America's youth, and get kids asking questions about our nation's history.

The exchange club president said the group usually gives flags out at parades, but says they're excited to bring in this year's celebration at the fairgrounds.

"The flag is such a vibrant symbol of our country.  And the sooner we can get a flag into their hands, the sooner they can begin to ask questions about American heritage, and how did we come to be the country we are," said Wallace Bonner, Exchange Club of Albany President.

Bonner said the exchange club is happy to partner up with the city to bring in the fireworks this year.

He said the flag booth will be set up by the front gate, and expects the flags to go quickly.

He also said live music, and plenty of food venders will be set up at the fairgrounds during the day, so come hungry.

The gates will open at 3pm.  Tickets are $2 a person, or $5 a car.
