Nearly starved dog fighting its way back to health

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A determined young dog, badly neglected and near death, is going to live.

It was one of the worst neglect cases the humane society's seen in recent years. But thanks to their help, Magnolia is a survivor.

Two weeks ago, the year old mixed lab was near death because of neglect and starvation. Animal control officers took her to the Albany Humane Society June 18th.

"She was so starved she could only have a little at a time," says Humane Society Executive Director Donna Strickland. "She chose to lick the juice off soft food but she wouldn't eat anything."

When they first received Magnolia at the Humane Society, she couldn't even stand. But now she is running around and playing with the employees.

Dr. Sonny Odom of the Magnolia Animal Hospital is expected to take care of a heartworm procedure on the once-starved lab.

Once Magnolia reaches the appropriate weight, the procedure will prevent diseases from traveling to the lungs vessels and tissues.

The Albany Humane Society can always use your help when it comes to saving animals. If you would like to donate to the Albany Humane Society, you can get more information HERE:
