ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some 5-12 year-old campers learned about endangered animals Tuesday at a special summer camp at the Parks Chehaw zoo.

The three day Red, WILD and Blue summer camp focuses on bald eagles, penguins, rhinos and other endangered species every year around Independence Day.

Campers are given hands on demonstrations with animal artifacts and learn about ongoing preservation efforts.

"What stands out to me about our camps, is the focus on education.  So while we're learning and we like to have fun, we do like to keep it education based so they're taking something away with them," said Danielle Albritton, Chehaw Education Assistant.

After a trip to the bald eagle exhibit, campers participated in an egg race as part of a lesson about how penguins shuffle eggs with their feet.

While the Red, WILD and Blue camp won't be offered again until next year, Albritton said many other camps will be held throughout the remainder of the summer.
