Sylvester businesses on alert for counterfeit bills

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

Sylvester Police are alerting business owners about counterfeit money circulating around town.

Police say a man wearing a white tank top, red hat, and red shoes used a counterfeit $20 bill for a purchase at the Flash Foods on Franklin Road on Saturday.  Authorities are urging employees to check all money they receive to make sure it is real.

"Business owners I would like to urge you at this time, whenever you receive a purchase of large bill or any bill $5 on up, make sure you check the bill to see if it's legitimate or not.  Do this before you make your transaction and that way you won't lose anything," said Kenneth Washington with the Sylvester Police Department.

Authorities say the man who used the counterfeit money was last seen in a Gold Chevrolet Impala. Last month two women used a counterfeit $5 bill at the same store. If you have any information, call Sylvester Police.
