Emergency crews prepare for mid-week flooding

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More heavy rain is expected to fall in South Georgia this week, and the possibility of localized flooding is expected to peak by Wednesday.

South Georgia Emergency Management officials are watching the Flint River and it's creeks, which are already high because of recent rains.

Forecasters are saying tropical moisture is expected to dump two to four inches of rain over most of South Georgia, but some areas could see double to triple that amount of rain.

River flooding is not expected, but flash flooding could occur in some areas.

"We are at full pool in most of our reservoirs and stuff, so it's something we'll watch," says Chief James Carswell, Dougherty Co. EMA Director and Fire Chief. "As it gets closer to those dates we'll see where everything is and we'll adjust accordingly."

The National Weather Service says because the ground in South Georgia is so saturated, the greatest potential for flash flooding will increase after mid week.
