Lee County residents prep for July 4th barbeques

Numbers more than 75 million people host or partake in a July 4th barbeque each year. Many in South Georgia say they're ready to fire up the grill, rain or shine.

"I love steak," said Leesburg resident Gil Harrell. "Hamburgers and hot dogs too."

"A lot of people go for the ribs," said Jason Jenkins, co-owner of Jenkins IBA. "Of course, the slower you can cook it the better so you can cook it on lower heat."

June saw some of the largest amounts of rainfall in Southwest Georgia history and the first week of July seems to continue that trend with rain expected to fall on the 4th.

"That doesn't make any difference," said Leesburg resident Eloise Alfieri. "The cookout will be right in the backyard and we'll just run right into the shelter."

Fire officials urge you to check your grill for grease, bugs and other critters, which can lead to gas traveling to other areas, resulting in a fire.
