Fleeing driver crashes, arrested for drugs

Sunday, when a Lowndes Co. deputy tried to stop the driver of a truck that had no tag, the driver took off.

The driver got up to 80MPH, and then crashed the truck into a tree. He and a passenger took off running.

Deputies caught the driver Don Juan Richardson and found several capsules of Vyvanse in his pocket. The passenger, Geraldine Pittman was also caught and arrested.

Another person was hurt in the crash, and was taken to the hospital for treatment. That person was not identified by the sheriff.

On Sunday, June 30, 2013 around 9:00 in the morning, a uniform patrol deputy noticed a Toyota Tacoma that had no license plate traveling on West Hill Avenue. The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled east on Hill Avenue at speeds around eighty {80} miles per hour.

The vehicle entered the construction zone on West Hill Avenue and eventually left the roadway and lost control crashing into a tree. The driver and one {1} of the two {2} vehicle passengers fled the vehicle on foot but were soon apprehended.

The driver, identified as Don Juan Richardson was searched and several capsules of Vyvanse were located in his pocket. The passenger, Geraldine Pittman was also arrested nearby.

A second passenger, who did not flee, was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by ambulance for injuries she sustained in the crash. During investigation by the deputies, it was learned that the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck had earlier been stolen from a residence on Iola Drive, Valdosta.

 The Vyvanse recovered from Richardson is a schedule II prescription medication for children, teens, and adults with ADHD. Both Don Richardson and Geraldine Pittman were transported to the Lowndes County Jail where they remain. They will appear this afternoon in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing where a bond will be considered.

Don Juan Richardson,  42, of Weaver Circle, Valdosta faces charges of  Theft by receiving stolen property, Violation of Georgia Controlled Substance Act, Obstruction of an officer, Fleeing and attempting to elude, and various traffic offenses.

Pittman, Geraldine 51, of old Lee Street, Valdosta faces charges of Theft by receiving stolen property.

The third person in the vehicle was admitted to South Georgia Medical Center and has not yet been arrested. That person will be identified upon their arrest.
