A.D.D.U. officer hit by man following crash

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany Dougherty Drug Unit officer is struck by the driver of a car agents were chasing, after it crashed into a utility pole. Agents are searching for the man who escaped.

About 9 Sunday night a red Chevrolet Cavalier sped away from the ADDU officers on 9th Avenue, sideswiping another car. The drug agents followed the car south on Jefferson, but when trying to turn onto West Society the car crashed into a utility pole.

After crashing, the two men inside tried to run.

A.D.D.U. Commander Major Bill Berry said "The passenger was caught. He had to be tased by the officer pursuing him on foot. The driver was detained for a brief moment, then sucker punched the officer and took off again."

The A.D.D.U. officer was not seriously injured. Investigators are now searching for the man who hit him. The passenger was taken for questioning after receiving medical treatment. His name has not been released. Agents say they are not sure if drugs were involved in the incident.
