South Albany church holds service despite burglaries

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Members at a South Albany church went on with worship service Sunday without air conditioner and other furniture that crooks ran off with earlier this week. Trinity Temple on West Mercer Avenue has been hit by burglars 3 times in June.

They had just enough equipment left to hold a small morning worship service.

"But hopefully by the grace of God we shall overcome. We going to overcome, but just getting back to the way we were it's going to take a little time because of the magnitude of theft," said Bishop John Burr.

About 30 members showed up this morning for service and they were still able to feed members and people from the community. Bishop Burr says he counting on the Lord to make a way.

"See materialistic things is going to go away, but the word of God is going to last forever," said Bishop John Burr.

Bishop Burr says the congregation is remaining upbeat. The congregation is praying for the crooks and they feel blessed that things weren't worse.

"Didn't anyone get hurt or nothing, that's the main thing. And the people that done these things have the opportunity to repent and ask God to forgive them for their sins, cause we already forgiven them," said Bishop John Burr.

Burr says the Albany Police department is cooperating and he believes they're doing what they need to do to stop this from happening again.

"Now they have 24 hours surveillance on the church. It's so much are doing because we need them very badly," said Bishop John Burr.

Burr says they will continue praising the Lord and hope to have everything set for next week's service.

Bishop Burr says a $2,000 reward is being offered for their equipment back. You can call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS and you can remain anonymous.
