MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The family of a Moultrie man who lost an arm, came together for a car wash benefit.

Michael Hobgood and his family have been at it since eight Saturday morning washing cars at Advance Auto Parts.

About 15 cars got a good cleaning for a monetary donation. Michael's arm was amputated after he contacted a rare flesh eating bacteria that got into a cut on his hand from pond water.

All the money collected today will go towards Michael's medical bills. Michael says his family has been supportive all along and is ecstatic for the support in the community.

"Alot of these people I never seen before in my life and they stop just from seeing me on the side of the road. And take their hard earned money and drop it in the jar for us to wash their vehicle instead of going to a car wash. I think it's wonderful for people to do stuff like that to help me out. I really appreciate it," said Michael Hobgood.

Hobgood is waiting to be cleared from his doctor to get a prosthetic arm. He says more fund raisers will be held in the future.

The family has an account open at Southwest Georgia Bank if anyone wants to donate to help.
