ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Motorcycle riders honored a fallen friend Saturday. Family and friends of Robert Patton gathered for a memorial ride, the first since he was murdered in October.

Friends of Robert Patton revved up their bikes for a memorial ride across town. Friends and family of Patton say this is one of the best ways to honor him because of Robert's love of motorcycles.

"My husband was a loving, kind hearted man that would help out anybody he could," said Tracey Patton.

Patton's wiliness to help cost him his life. GBI agents say Patton was shot and killed by Johnny Anthony Allen in October. The family says Robert was protecting a woman from Allen when he was shot in the chest.

Now that Robert is gone, everyone is coming together to remember the good things about him and to celebrate who they say was a great person.

"We laughed together, we rode together, we cried together. And this is just a tribute in Robert's honor," said Wes Schubert.

"Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure that this is really happening. That so many people loved him," said Tracey Patton.

Robert's favorite chopper and his trophies were displayed at the last pit stop in the ride. Number 17, his competition number was worn on shirts made by the family. They been overwhelmed by support since the tragedy.

"He may not have fought and served our country, but he served us. He served out community and he will always be my hero," said Tracey Patton.

His friends plan to keep the memorial ride going in the future.

Bikers made five different stops in the memorial ride starting from Hog Wild and ended at the VFW.
