MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Forensic D-N-A analysis could begin Monday at the state crime lab in Moultrie.     

After a long process, the G-B-I finally secured accreditation for the facility.     

Scientists and lab technicians will conduct D-N-A testing for law enforcement agencies in 27 counties and help reduce backlogs at crime labs in Atlanta and Savannah.  

"Well it's fantastic we've been working on this project for almost two years now and the fact that we've finally reached this milestone is a wonderful achievement for that staff down in that laboratory," said George Herrin, GBI crime lab director.    

The Moultrie lab is expected to conduct D-N-A analysis on 200 to 250 cases a year.
