Water council looking at new water projects

The state is bringing back water resource councils to our area.

The Water Planning Council held its first meeting in more than a year to discuss the Governor's water supply program and the Flint River Drought Protection Act.

The Director of the Environmental Protection Division spoke to the council in Albany Friday about revisions to that law and research studying water issues in South Georgia.

"He's not going to go in there and whole sale without first doing the proper research to conduct the studies properly," said Richard Royal, Lower Flint and Ochlocknee Council.

That law would institute new irrigation efficiency requirements would include the ASR project that will pump water from one aquifer to another.
