Walgreens and the Public Health Department are providing free HIV tests this weekend as part of national HIV testing day.
The Greater Than AIDS campaign is administering the tests at select Walgreens locations to help fight HIV transmission.
The test, called Clearview, analyzes blood gathered through a finger prick and can determine a positive result in a little as fifteen minutes.
The group encourages sexually active people and those who use intravenous drugs to get tested.
"Most people, they do wait to get tested, and actually too little too late, because by the time that they are tested and they find out their diagnosis, it's within a year's time that they develop AIDS," says Prevention Supervisor Zenora Sanders. "We actually could have slowed down that transmission process."
Testing will take place at the Walgreens at 2351 Dawson road Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Other tests will be offered Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The health department also provides free testing throughout the year and connects those who test positive with proper treatment and support groups.
