Albany City Commissioners recently established a local vendor policy to help local vendors remain competitive in selling goods and services.
Local companies will be allowed to match the lowest bids from out of town competitors if the local bid is within two percent of the non-local low bid.
While this policy won't likely sit well with non local contractors, we think it's important to give our own Albany/Dougherty County vendors every opportunity to earn back some of the tax money they invest in our community.
The new bid policy is a first step but will require close supervision to ensure that the city bidding process remains competitive and everyone's tax dollars are wisely spent.
