City recognizes student volunteers

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

City leaders honor students who are volunteering their time to keep Albany beautiful even though they're not from here.

The youth group from Beach United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida has spent a week working in Albany each of the last five summers.

Mayor Dorothy Hubbard gave them words of encouragement as the city commission honored them tonight.

The students say they're just trying to do what they believe Jesus would do.

"Because we're meant to do that, that's why we're put on this earth, we're meant here to serve others, love on people, to give and that's what Jesus did, so we try to act like what Jesus did," said Andre Bass, Student volunteer.

Already this week, the volunteers have cleaned up the art park and painted the Albany Advocacy Resource Center building. They'll clean up Tift park and help senior citizens Wednesday.
