ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Albany Water Gas and Light customers are worried they're being targeted by a phone scammer.

W-G-&-L wants them to know the calls are legitimate.

The utility is conducting a phone survey to make sure customers know the dangers of gas.

The call comes from this number, 202-769-0477.

Some folks who have seen that number show up on their caller I-D googled it and got results showing calls coming from that number are scams.

W-G-&-L officials say that's not true.

"So it is a real survey, we have to do by federal regulation and we would really love it if our customers really take a moment or two to really answer the gas question..their not going to ask anything that is of personal nature,"

Lorie Farkas says the only part of this that's a scam is the accusation that the call is a scam. She says it will be helpful if you take part in the survey.
