Wet weather has gators on the move

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An unexpected visitor showed up at one Albany home during Monday evening's rainstorm.

Department of Natural Resources rangers say our unusually wet weather is pushing alligators away from their normal areas.

This one showed up at a house in the 1000 block of Deerborn Street in west Albany a little before 6:00. There is a holding pond in that area.

A DNR ranger picked it up and took it to a safe area away from homes.

The DNR won't come remove an alligator just because you see one. It must be on your property, posing a danger before they'll come pick it up.

Dougherty County Commissioners want more information before they vote on a proposed recovered materials facility in East Albany. More than 20 acres along Pecan Lane are up for rezoning as a Restricted Industrial District. The facility would be used to crush concrete and other storm debris from the nearby P&G warehouse that was destroyed by the January storms.
