Albany ARC graduates leaders

Posted: Updated:

An Albany non-profit group continues to help people with disabilities become community leaders.

Monday night The Albany Advocacy Resource Center held a graduation ceremony for its 2013 Dougherty Leadership Development Institute.

The 6 month program teams up people with developmental or physical disabilities with non-disabled people.

Graduates received a plaque and words of inspiration from Albany Police Chief John Proctor who urged them to make a difference.

"Too often you see folks all the time using whatever mechanism to speak to the negativity and what I hope to encourage them to do is get involved, bring forth some of the good," said John Proctor, Police Chief, Albany Police Department.

WALB's Karla Heath Sands was part of tonight's event. The program has graduated more than 300 leaders since it started in 1992.   If you know someone who may benefit from it visit albanyarc.org
