Paddle Georgia Finishes in Bainbridge

Posted: Updated:

More than 300 paddlers rowed to the finish of Paddle Georgia 2013 today in Bainbridge.  They came from as close as Albany and as far as Denmark for the 106 mile trip down the Flint River to benefit the Georgia River Network.

"It's been just a delightful trip," said Joe Cook, coordinator of Paddle Georgia. "The scenery down here is just gorgeous. We've done this for 9 years across rivers all over the state and the Flint River is the most beautiful in my opinion."

The 7-day paddling event raised at least $4000. While the funds garnered help the cause, the event also brings about awareness concerning some of the present day issues regarding the river.

"The main issue on the flint is that our main regulatory agency," said Flint Riverkeeper Gordon Rogers. "They've handed out too many permits .... There are literally people having water dry in front of their property. That's a violation of property rights and that needs to change."
