ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hiring experts say applicants will need to stand out from a larger crowd in Georgia as high unemployment remains.

Georgia's unemployment rate rose slightly for May even though more jobs were created.

The May unemployment rate was 8.3 percent, up from 8.2 percent in April but down nearly a full point from a year ago. The number of jobs in the state went up, but more job seekers entered the market.

Experts say if you're looking for a job, take extra steps to standout.

"I think certainly you need to get out there. I found that even in my past in looking for a position, if I applied for something online, I actually went to the location and dropped off another resume, maybe hoping to see someone face to face," recalls Paige Lovvorn, District Manager with Kelly Services.

Albany's unemployment rate is above Georgia's state average.
