The Albany Water Gas and light commission is preparing customers for a change that starts soon for those who pay with debit or credit cards.
WG&L leaders say the utility is paying $20,000 dollars a month in fees for giving customers those payment options.
Now, customers who use their cards will have to pay a little extra to offset that cost.
"We don't plan to charge everything that it costs but we want to kind of share with the customer charge a convenience fee for using a credit card and it's expected to increase our budget for the year by ninety thousand dollars," said John Van San, finance director, WG&L
Starting July 1st it will cost you $2 every time you use your debit or credit card to pay your WG&L bill.
