Nursing emaciated Albany dog back to health

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Humane Society officials say it's one of the worst cases of animal neglect they have seen.

Tonight a veterinarian and Humane Society workers are  trying to nurse a one-year old lab mix back to health after she was nearly starved to death.

The emaciated dog is too weak to stand.  But her bright eyes and loving disposition make her stand out.

Albany Humane Society officials are calling the dog Ms. Magnolia because Dr. Sonny Odom at Magnolia Animal Hospital is doing so much to keep her alive.

Animal control officers found her Monday.

Humane Society workers are making special efforts to get her to eat.

Albany Humane Society Executive Director Donna Strickland said "She hasn't been wanting dog food too much, so I ran down to Carter's Grill. Everybody loves Carters. So she enjoyed the rice and gravy, so I guess that's what she'll be getting for the next few days."

The dog's owner, 32-year old Erica Wilson, was cited for animal cruelty.

Humane Society officials say Ms Magnolia will need weeks of care, but they expect her to make a full recovery.
