GLOBE, AZ (CBS5) -

An Arizona woman had the ride of her life after she fell asleep in a trash bin that was loaded into a garbage truck as it made its rounds in Globe.

The driver of the Copper State Sanitation vehicle made 10 more stops Wednesday morning and compacted the load eight to 10 times before realizing the woman's plight, the Globe Police Department said.

"She climbed in the bin to go to sleep for the night and just got caught in the pickup of the route," said Globe Fire Department Chief Al Gamero.

As the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of a DES office on Monroe Street, a bystander heard a voice and saw a head pop out of the truck, fire authorities said. The driver immediately shut down the truck and called 911.

"It's not 100% compact. It's a 50% compacter," Gamero said.

The 38-year-old woman, identified as Jessica Bunyar, was found in the vehicle's storage compartment.

Fire medics treated Bunyar on top of the truck and deployed a rope system with a stokes basket to help get her down using the ladder truck.

Gamero said the patient was then airlifted to Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn Medical Center. Bunyar was listed in stable condition.

"She's very lucky. She was talking to us. We were ale to get her on top of the truck, stabilize her," Gamero said.

The Canyon Fire Department helped in the operation.
