ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The parents of a murdered baby say they want justice after their longtime friend was charged with killing him.

The parents of 6-month old Ja'Kobian Davis say they can't understand why their son died in the care of a trusted babysitter. Prosecutors say the investigation into the baby's death continues as the accused killer made her first appearance before a judge Wednesday.

Ja'Kobian Davis' parents say he was a wonderful baby - pretty and playful. Wednesday his family grieved together as they made preparations for his funeral.

32-year-old Demetria Porter made her first appearance before a judge who let her know she is charged with felony murder and cruelty to a child Wednesday morning.

"We not no bad parents, explains father Jerome Davis. "We just trusted somebody we thought was a good friend and a good person. Nothing like this ever happened before when she babysat for us."

"I loved her like a sister," said mother Kayla Burns.

Davis and Burns left Ja'Kobian with Porter Friday, for an out of town trip that went much longer than expected because their car broke down. Sunday morning Davis went to Porter's Marie Avenue home, and found Ja'Kobian dead in a car seat.

Authorities are still investigating how long the baby had been dead when he was found.

"It just hurts so bad," says Burns. "To know she would do this to me.  We were friends for ten years. I'm just not understanding why. Why a friend would do this to my baby?"

The autopsy showed Davis was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.

The grieving family, with lots of questions now prepares to bury their son. Demetria Porter remains in the Dougherty County Jail, held without bond.

Ja'Kobian Davis' funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday morning at Riverside Cemetery.

The Davis family is requesting donations from the community to help pay for the baby's funeral. If you would like to contribute, contact Meadows Funeral Home. Their information is provided below:
