One dead in Decatur Co. crash

DECATUR CO., GA (WALB) -

A Camilla woman is dead after a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon.

The Georgia State Patrol says it happened on Highway 97. Officials say 38-year-old Melissa Wright was traveling south on the highway when her SUV drifted across the center line and hit a tractor trailer.

A report says the driver of the tractor trailer tried to avoid the SUV, but could not. When the SUV collided with the side of the tractor trailer, it hit the side of the truck's diesel fuel tank, causing it to burst into flames.

Authorities say Right died in the impact of that crash.

No charges are expected in the investigation.

    Albany leaders are considering a new budget that includes an Albany Utilities rate hike that when added up will bring in $2.6 million annually to the utility.
