Burglar alarm alerts police to marijuana operation

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A burglar alarm alerts police to a marijuana selling operation, after someone broke into an apartment on Buck Lane.

Agents say that police responded to the apartment because of a burglar alarm. Officers found the back door broken open and went inside. That's where they detected a strong odor of marijuana, and saw pot in plain view.

They got a search warrant and found four pounds of marijuana wrapped for sale, hidden throughout the apartment.

Ravii Mikel Givens was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He is being held in the Dougherty County jail.

Also arrested was 22 year old Patrick Lewis who lived at 1917A Buck Lane, where Givens' name was on the lease.

Police are looking for a third man, 37 year old Anthony Seay in connection with this crime.

Officers think that someone tried to break in to the apartment to steal the pot, and that tripped the burglar alarm, which in turn alerted police.

Givens, who played ball at Westover and Stetson University, is a part-time, contracted assistant basketball coach at Albany Tech. Lewis is one of his former players at Albany Tech.
