School board members won't raise property taxes

Posted: Updated:

Dougherty County School Board members want property owners to know, they won't raise your taxes despite another tight budget year.

Monday night Board members held a public hearing to give people a chance to give their input on the proposed budget for the upcoming school year.

Nobody showed up Monday night.  They made up a budget deficit by closing several schools so a tax increase wouldn't be needed.

"We have never been of the opinion that there needed to be any tax increase, in fact our board members are very adamant that there will no additional mileage rate," said Carol Tharin, Board member.

The board hopes to reduce the number of furlough days next year by two. They're still working on that. They plan to approve the budget on June 26th.
