TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A drive to help fire fighters stay hydrated in the scorching summer temperatures is underway in Tifton.

Harvey's Supermarket and Tractor Supply have teamed with organizers of the third annual water and Gatorade drive as a way to say thanks to the men and women who save our lives.

The event started last Monday, and has been organized by the daughter of a volunteer fire fighter for the last three years.

She said she wanted to help her dad fight heat exhaustion one summer, and has since been encouraging people to give drinks to their local station.

"I remember putting dad's turnout gear on, and remember how hot it was myself. And I decided...Dad had a call one day, and it was so hot. They ran out of water, they had to call and get more water sent to them, and that day I said 'It's time to get started,'" said Nicole Taylor, Drive Director.

She said the drive raised over 50 cases of water and 32 cases of Gatorade last year, and hopes to get about the same this year.

Harvey's in Tifton has a bin outside for donors to place their donations, which Taylor will pick up and bring to the fire station.

The drive will continue until July 31st. For more information on how you can donate, call: (229)326-0691.
