A Dothan man suspected to be part of a ring that has robbed almost dozen convenience stores in three states is behind bars in Alabama.
25-year old Milas Antwon Grant, III, who grew up in Miller County, was picked up by the Houston County, Alabama Sheriff's Department Thursday night.
The Houston County Sheriff's Department is calling Grant a suspect in several armed robberies.
Early County Sheriff's Investigator Will Caudill says Milas Grant, III will be charged with the May 19th armed robbery of the Petro Convenience Store in Damascus.
Two gunmen robbed the Damascus store at closing time and beat owner Praney Patel after their gun jammed after repeatedy attempting to shoot Patel.
Caudill says the Damascus robbery is connected to last Saturday's armed robbery at the U.S. Food Mart in Cedar Springs.
The assailants also approached the clerks at the U.S. Food Mart at closing time.
They fired a shot that grazed one of the clerks in the back.
About an hour after that holdup, two men tried to hold up a convenience store on U.S. Highway 84 in nearby Pansey, Alabama.
The owner of the Alabama store exchanged gunshots with the two robbers but no one is believed to have been injured.
Investigators believe Grant is part of a ring that has robbed or attempted to rob 11 convenience stores in Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
The timing of the robberies and some other information led investigators in the three states to work together.
More information and more arrests in this case are expected in the next few days.
