FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday afternoon on Highway 87 South, that killed a Fitzgerald veteran.

Dodge County Coroner Joe T. Smith confirmed 64-year-old Dr. Charles McWhorter died after being ejected from his vehicle, when he lost control and crashed into a ditch around 3:30 PM. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Coroner Smith believes he was traveling from the Veterans Hospital after being dismissed.

Dr. McWhorter was a veterinarian at a clinic in Fitzgerald.
