COLQUITT, GA (WALB) -

Law enforcers from all over Georgia attended the funeral of a longtime south Georgia sheriff who died in an accident at his home.

Miller County Sheriff Buddy Glass was laid to rest late Thursday afternoon on what would have been his 69th birthday.

Sheriffs and other law enforcers from around Georgia took part in his funeral procession through Colquitt and praised him for his service. Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals said, "He's part of the brotherhood in law enforcement, and you're going to see a lot of agencies here from different areas of the state and probably from out of the state here on behalf of Sheriff Glass.

Glass died Saturday when the golf cart his was driving somehow ended up in a pond behind his home. His leg was trapped under the cart, and he drowned.

Chief Deputy Shane Rathel will serve as interim Sheriff in Miller County until a special election to pick a new Sheriff is held.
