Miss Atlanta visits kids at Phoebe Northwest

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Kids at Phoebe Northwest had a special visitor this morning.

Miss Atlanta, Carly Mathis visited with kids with special needs. Mathis was first runner up in the Miss Georgia pageant last year and is hoping to win the crown this year.

This is her third year visiting at Phoebe. She says she's gotten to see some of these children grow up.

Even though the children have challenges in life, Mathis says they inspire her to do her best.

"By interacting with them, seeing how strong they are. They may be 4, 5, 10 years old but they have so much strength  and so much will power than many people my age or even older do. Any they've overcome so many obstacles, so they just inspire me to keep going and just remind me everyday why i'm involved in the Miss America organization," said Carly Mathis.

Mathis will leave Saturday for the Miss Georgia pageant. It's Wednesday through Saturday in Columbus. The Miss America pageant will be held in September.
